Zac Cheng, From No. 205 Bo-ai Rd., Taoyuan 330, Displays Work in the 2013 UMass Dartmouth MFA Thesis Exhibition

2013 Apr 5

The UMass Dartmouth 2013 MFA Thesis Exhibition is a much anticipated and celebrated annual event showcasing the artwork of graduating students from the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The exhibition includes the work of 17 degree candidates who present the culmination of their two to three years of creative research in a variety of visual arts disciplines while celebrating their attainment of a Master of Fine Arts degree. This event is held at the Star Store Campus, in historic Downtown New Bedford, MA from April 6 to May 12. The opening reception is on Saturday, April 6, from 3pm to 5pm.

On display is a diverse array of media, from traditional to contemporary with everything from painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and jewelry to interactive and video art -- all used in ways that are serious, questioning, and at times, playful. An exciting variety of materials have been utilized to express not only artistic concerns, but issues of identity, fragility, balance, and futility such as textiles, lace, felt, clay, carved bones, real strawberries, yarn made stiff by glue and resin, and interactive digital books.

Zac Cheng was born and raised in Taiwan. He earned a BA in Visual Design in 2007 from the Min-Chi Institute of Technology. In 2006 he worked for The Wisdom Digital Media as a 2D Animator. He has exhibited in both Taiwan and the United States and has been studying in the MFA Textile and Fiber Arts program at UMass Dartmouth since 2010.

The exhibition is open daily from 9am to 6pm. The gallery will be open until 9pm during AHA! Nights on April 11 and May 9, 2013. All events are free and open to the public.
